Coram Deo – Part 5

“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
James 1:17

The attribute of God that engenders great peace and rest is the immutability of God.  Rightly does the Westminster Shorter Catechism say, “…God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.”  The fact that God is unchangeable means that He is always the same.  God will never become weak, tired, restless, or worn out.  He doesn’t turn cruel, hateful, malicious, or insidious.  It doesn’t matter what we do, say, or think, He will always act out of His unchangeable and immutable will.  This means that even though we are not consistent, He is; even though we shift in our thinking, He doesn’t; even when we falter and become indecisive, He remains the same–always has, always will.

Thus, we worship a God who is not at the whim of emotion, fate, or feelings–no, no, our God is the Great I Am–the One who was, is, and will always be–the immovable Jehovah, the LORD!

Let’s together lift our worship high to the Lord of hosts–the immutable and glorious God!
