Coram Deo – Part 7

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16

The last of the Coram Deo series is a consideration of God’s mercy and grace.  Many have understood mercy to be the withholding of punishment when it is deserved, and grace being a bestowal of blessing when it is underserved or unmerited.  In this verse above, the author of Hebrews lets us in to the peculiar basis for which God has established fellowship with mankind.  Out of the overflow of His grace, as well as the giving of His mercy, God (through the sacrifice of His Son) brought man into fellowship with Himself.  Consider the thoughts that have come in to your mind this week, or the love and affection you have shown and given to lesser things.  God’s mercy and grace are present even in the darkest and most desperate of times, and He says come.  Come home.  Come back and receive His grace and mercy.  Come boldly in the name of Christ–His righteousness is yours by faith.  Come. Come home to the Father of lights and love.  Come boldly to the throne of grace and rest in His everlasting presence.

Before the face of God I come
as a child adopted and free

Into His presence I walk
knowing that His grace & mercy are there for me.

There I abide.  There I remain.
