From His Mouth…

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Proverbs 2:6

A couple of observations and one application:

Observation 1: Knowledge, understanding, and wisdom are sourced in God.

Observation 2:  God does not withhold knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, but instead, gives them freely from His mouth—His revealed Word.

Application: Christ is the wisdom of God (1 Cor. 1:24) and the Word of God (John 1). Sin separates us from God, leaving us to depend entirely on God to give us access to His knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Christ provides this access because He died for sins, was raised from the dead, and sent the Holy Spirit to indwell anyone who, by grace through faith, repents and believes in Him for salvation and reconciliation with God. It is through the Holy Spirit, God’s presence in His people, that God’s truth reaches the deepest part of our hearts (1 Cor. 6:19-20 and Hebrews 4:12). Thus, through Christ, we now have anytime access to illumination of God’s Word for our lives (1 Cor. 2:14-16)—knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Hence, a daily pursuit of knowing God through His Word (reading and reflecting), empowered by the Holy Spirit, offers God’s people true hope to understand their circumstances in light of His will and then to rest in the fact that He is sovereign over all aspects of life. Peace. Rest. Trust. Knowledge, understanding, and wisdom are found in Christ.

Thus, Paul would say that Christ is the storehouse of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom: “…all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” Col. 1:2b-3.

Where else would we look? Where else would we go?

In a world full of distractions, promising knowledge, understanding, and wisdom, I’m going to the Word. Christ alone.

God help us, Amen.
