Life to Life.

The day arrived.

Calm and hopeful, she steadies her mind.

Unsure, she glanced at her husband.

Meeting his smile, she collected her thoughts.

Pain. Deep pain. Gripping and holding.

Pressing and moving.

Release. Breathe, she remembered to breathe.

Sweat beading. A soft touch of his hand.

Busy. Lights. Pain. Joy. Love.

She’s born. Life. Cries. Breathe. Remember to breathe.

Her head rests on the pillow as the infant form settles on her chest.

Warmth to warmth. Her tiny figure settles into its new home.

Heart beating slows. Calm. The noise has softened.

Liquid life enters her tiny body. Nourishment. Rest.

Her eyes glisten as she lovingly examines her tiny back, rising and lowering.

Holding and pressing her closer, she looks at her husband.

The touch of his hand reassures her of his presence. His strong presence.

Sleep.

Sound. Sharp. A cry. Awake. Tired.

Changing garments. Chest to chest.

A smile as life enters life.

Home.

Cries. Changing. Smile.

Hand in hand. More smiles.

Frustration. Tired. Shrill and sharp. Unable to understand.

Tears. Sadness. Joy. Connection.

Baby bed. Walking. Scrape. Bandaids. Tears.

Smile. Singing. First words. Joy. Deep joy.

First day of school. Tears. Sadness. Pride.

Friends. Laughter. Lots of laughter.

Music. Movies. Friends. Lots of friends.

Fewer hugs. Some smiles. Alone. Still laughter. Love.

Talks. Longer talks. About life and love and boys.

Veiled truth. Twisted words. Confession. Sorrow.

Faith. True faith. Baptism. Joy. Disappointment.

Oil change. Tires refilled. Used car. Driving and leaving.

Friends. Lots more friends. Family meals less frequent. Laughter. Lots of laughter.

Acceptance. Education. Friends.

Him.

Smiles. Long talks. Happiness. Hope. Future. Excitement.

Ring.

Vows.

Tears. Lots of tears. Laughter in tears.

Joy. Pride. Anticipation. Love.

Misunderstanding. Confession. Repentance. Joy. Anger. Frustration.

Trust. Trust deepened. Joy. Love. True love.

A positive indication.

First child. Joy. Expectation. Fear. Reassurance.

Life.

Phone call.

Sadness.

Sorrow.

Memories.

Tears.

The day arrived.

She’s home. Peace. True peace.

His hand touches hers. She’s ushered into His presence. Love. Only love. She feels His love.
