Three Pillars for An Unshakeable Identity

Let’s finish this week recalibrating our hearts and minds in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here are three truths to encourage you toward an unshakeable hope and identity:

  1. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is sufficient.
    • Is it possible to find our joy or happiness in things, people, or what others say of us?
    • Nothing or no one is designed to sustain your life, desires, dreams, or hope except the gospel. Only the life, death, resurrection, and mediation of Jesus Christ has the power to save, justify, sanctify, sustain, and one day glorify you. If you’re prone to finding your identity in…
      • What you do… then…you’re crushed when you fail and proud when you succeed.
      • What others say of you…then…you’re crushed when criticized and proud when praised.
      • What you can control…then…you’re crushed when submitting and proud when empowered.
    • Only the gospel gives you an unshakeable identity that surpasses your actions, critics, and power. Only God, who became flesh to live the perfect life, die the necessary death, and rise from the grave, has the power to name, sustain, love, and welcome you into His presence forever. There is nothing or no one greater.
  2. Movement creates momentum.
    • Small steps matter. Healthy habits take time, but each begins with one step in the right direction. Win your day by winning your mornings: set an alarm, don’t snooze, read the Bible, pray, and move your body. Aim for direction, not perfection. Tell your time, money, mind, and heart where to go. Aim small, miss small. Align your eyes on God’s Word for true success, letting the Holy Spirit convict, conform, and comfort you toward eternity.
  3. Pray for Wisdom.
    • Ask God to fill you “…with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.” Colossians 1:9b-12

Which of these truths will you lean into this week? Consider sharing this with a friend or family member. Start small and trust that God is working all things together for good in your life.

God help us. Amen.
