God, my Refuge…

“Those who trust in the Lord are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever.”
Psalm 125:1-2

Midway through our hike, my wife and I reached our anticipated view–Colchuck Lake. Just before we arrived, the skies began to open up and release some cool and refreshing rain. The closer we approached the destination, the colder it became–and the heavier the rain. No sooner had we found a spot nestled under a rock, than did the weather begin to turn even colder and the rain begin to freeze. The clouds rolled in and the majestic mountains–seen barely through the clouds–stood proud and undaunted despite the inclement weather. If we wanted to enjoy the view, we had to take shelter, and so we did…

We’re in the mountains. Change in weather is to be expected.

And it’s really no different in life. A lot of times, however, it’s hard to see the forest through the trees (or the mountains through the fog). Nevertheless, the mountains are there. Standing sure. Standing proud. Unmoved. Undaunted. Un-phased by the passing storm. The weather changes constantly, but the mountains remain.

How Does This Apply To Us Today?

God surrounds His people. Strong. Immovable. Sure. Undaunted by circumstances. Un-phased by changes. Steady, He remains. Like a mountain standing true in changing weather, God stands true through life’s storms. His love for His people will never be shaken. What’s more, He created the mountains, and is in complete control of those storms.

Feeling overwhelmed? Feeling beat-down by circumstances–things you can’t change?

Nestle up under the Rock. Find your protection…find your provision…find your refuge in the One who stands sure.

“The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock; and exalted be God, the rock of my salvation…”
