Eyes Wide Open…

The city was surrounded. Fear was at its height. Hope was fading. The battle was all but lost. The man of God and his companion’s fate appeared sealed.

“Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?””
2 Kings 6:15

Have you ever felt like that? Surrounded by circumstance? Surrounded by situations? Surrounded by difficulty and challenges and mistakes? And…in those moments, have you resorted to fear…anxiety…worry…heartache…doubt?

The reality is, we all can…and we all have. Life has a way of coming upon us just like an army surrounding a city. One second all is well, and then another second the rug is pulled out from underneath us. But, that’s not the final story…

So he [Elisha] answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” “Then Elisha prayed and said, “O Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the Lord opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”
2 Kings 6:16-17

Maybe there’s somebody reading this article right now, and they need to hear:

  • Do not fear! For those who are with us are more than those who are with them…” Or “Do not fear! For greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.”
  • God’s army surrounds you–follower of Christ!

“Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7 (Amplified)
