Life’s Sandpaper…

On Wednesday of this week I was heading home from Dallas traveling north on the I-35 Express Lane after picking up our flooring for our house renovation project. The tone for the day had already been set up with productivity, and I was ready to continue the momentum.

That all changed when I looked in my side mirror only to see rubber flying in the air and distributing itself all over the freeway. A couple cars had to dodge the mess, and my stomach dropped. First of all, I’m borrowing this trailer from a friend who graciously provided it for me to move material. Second, I’ve never had a blow out this bad…and for sure never on a major highway like I-35. Third, I knew that my day was not going to end as productively as I had imagined. Fourth, the thought crossed my mind, “…well, I guess this is how really bad wrecks happen.” I quickly pushed those thoughts aside, called my wife, Jennifer, and began to see the hand of God.

First, I asked Jenn to see if there were any tire stores nearby, and one was literally at the next exit. Incredible. God’s provision at work.

Second, in order to get to the exit, I had to slow down to keep the wheel from being damaged. I slowed down to about 10 miles per hour and rode on the shoulder. Well, with cars zooming by as fast as they could go I was beginning to get worried about them running right into the backside of the trailer. Then, out of nowhere two traffic trucks pulled up behind me and kept the vehicles at a safe distance from my tail. Incredible. God’s provision at work.

Third, the exit was a right hand exit, which meant I had to cross going 10-20 miles per hour all lanes of I-35 traffic going about 90 miles per hour. I gripped the wheel and slowly began making my way across. One of the traffic trucks pulled around me, but one stayed and blocked all the traffic for me to cross and safely reach the exit and access road. Incredible. God’s provision at work.

Fourth, after sitting at the tire store for a bit and watching two guys work on a tire situation that appeared very close to mine, I realized it was my turn to have things worked on. Well, my tire had wrapped around the axle and there was no way of getting it off without cutting it. I asked the tire employee to borrow his cutting tool (sawz-all), and he informed me that they did not possess one, but the guys next to me working on their tire (with the same tire and axle problem) let me borrow theirs. I would have been stuck with a tire wrapped around the axle if these guys didn’t already have the same problem, and brought their own sawz-all to fix it! Incredible. God’s provision at work.

Was I as productive as I wanted to be that day? No. But…I experienced something far more than productivity. I saw God’s provision in intimate ways that far surpassed any work I could have accomplished on our house.

How Does This Apply To Us Today?

  1. Do you see God’s provision in the midst of life’s interruptions?
  2. If not, why not?
  3. Ask for eyes to see and ears to hear God’s provision throughout your life this week.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”
