Year of the Bible 2023

One of the fascinating aspects of learning how civilizations come into being and are sustained is the ingenuity behind their structures. One particular innovation that revolutionized what has served many homes across America is the grist mill.

This tool turned hard cereal grains grown from nearby fields from inedible kernels to flour ready for baking enjoyment and life-giving sustenance. There’s no telling how many pounds of grain has been ground up into flour worldwide.

From raw material to life-giving food…there’s a lesson for us as we head into this new year.

The grist mill metaphor came to mind as I was thinking about my time with the Lord and another opportunity to read through and soak in His Word. Years of experience have proven that a slow and methodical method of reading God’s Word serves me well. It’s not flashy or glamorous, but it is steady and sure.

This year, I’ll continue to get a small amount of Old Testament and New Testament with the Robert Murray M’Cheyne reading plan, and I’ll carry on my daily Proverbs of the day.

Will you join me?!

God bless us all as we seek to invest our lives slowly soaking in God’s Word…and may His Word steadily grind up and produce life for our consumption and those around us!
