Friendship

When I met Dupree, we were associates at Trammell Crow Company, working in downtown Dallas. After spending time close to him, I knew he would be a friend. His disposition was confident, yet he was humble. His one-liners were memorable, and his questions penetrated. He was a peer that challenged me to godly pursuits, and his standard for living a purposeful life brought me up to another plane.

Nearly twenty years later, I’m still encouraged, challenged, and inspired by this brother.

Iron sharpens iron,
So one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17

What’s incredible is that from this friendship, God has provided a space for present-day GAP students to hear from Dupree as he shares his heart for God’s Word, his desire to shepherd his staff at Woodbine Development, and faithfully present the gospel in his sphere of influence.

As I consider our friendship and the friendships I have with others, I am reminded of this simple yet profound truth…

“The man of too many friends [chosen indiscriminately] will be broken in pieces and come to ruin,
But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 (Amplified Version)

May God bless us all with friends who bring us to a place of glorying in and glorifying our Lord. Amen and Amen.
