Morning Mercies…

Each day begins just like it did yesterday…

Fresh.

New.

Expectant.

The sun rises in the east…

Its heat warms the landscape upon which its rays fall…

Dew has settled upon the earth…

And birds begin their harmonious tune…

Life’s present given as one more day awaits another moon…

Consciousness prevails and the first thought enters the mind…

Meanwhile, dragonflies begin their strategic pursuit…

A coyote ends another night prowl…

And a pond rustles with deep diving and foraging fowl…

The owl goes into hiding…

And the bat to its cave…

The snake slithers under a rock…

And the night creatures are no longer so brave…

Another body stretches forth in motion as it rises from its slumber…

All the while plants anxiously absorb solar rays…

Shadows shorten and light dispels the early morning haze…

Life continues.

Life begins.

Life expires.

Life seen through a new lens.

Blind eyes now open…

Yesterday’s thoughts all but forgotten.

For this new day brings something unique…

A glorious gift, though same…

Ill interests it does not pique.

Mercy you say?

New morning mercies?

How could this be in light of yesterday’s chaos?

It is true.

For God’s gift remains.

It depends not on the person.

But instead…

Upon a love that is unchanged.

Faithfulness outpoured with no end…

A bottomless well…

Upon which abundant life descends.

So, lift your eyes each new morning…

And cling tightly to the promise of His mercies outpouring.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”
