I Turned 40…Now What?!

I suspect there are varying categorical or seasonal facets to analyzing one’s life. Some could view life from the perspective of events. And yet others could see life from the angle of age.

All are pertinent and at the same time useful depending on the context.

As I look back on my life, there are seasons that are obviously delineated. For instance, entering college, getting married, having children, switching careers paths, etc.

However, as I analyze my life from the perspective of age-markers, I come down to two ages that stick out to me as momentous. The first is 16 years old and the second is 40 years old.

When I turned 16 my world changed. I had wheels, which meant I was mobile. In an instant, the road got longer and the scope of opportunities broader.

Last week was another major age milestone for me. I turned 40.

Leading up to my birthday there was a real sense that things were changing. I couldn’t put a finger exactly what it was, but I knew in my gut that this birthday brought with it real opportunities to approach life differently. What’s fascinating is that my identical twin brother, Paul, felt the same thing.

The question is: what change or new leaf am I going to turn?

I’m going to write a book. Not a crazy big scholarly book, but a book nevertheless.

And, I need your help.

I’m going to try something new by opening up the comment section at the end of each article I submit. We’ll see how it goes. If it’s helpful, we’ll keep it going, if not then we’ll take it off. So in light of that, I’d love your feedback as I submit each section of the book each week.

Below is the tentative framework:

My hope is to have the content of this book completed by March and print ready by June. The goal would be to incorporate this book into the GAP discipleship ministry. As such, I’m aiming to bring in one or two more authors to contribute and/or serve as the editor.

We’ll see what God does.

Please pray for biblical wisdom to navigate these next steps.

“So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”
