2022 Bible Reading Reflections…

A new year.

In every direction new opportunities.

Plethora of considerations.

Each day…presentations of poignant potential promising pragmatics.

The thoughtful pursuit of which holds our gaze.

Our minds fixed on points yet to be determined, albeit wrangling against diversions.

Inexorable.

Practical.

Yet diminutive.

Necessary, but inconsequential.

Niggling.

Low grade and captivating.

The complexity of the human condition this time of year.

Hope and joy mixed with anxiety and longing.

Into this dark milieu a beacon of light pierces through the broad canopy and radiates a luminescent glow into seeking hearts longing to be before the face of God.

An ancient and penetrating effulgence.

Inextinguishable.

Enduring from generation to generation.

While the grass has withered.

And while the flower has fallen.

It has remained.

Unscathed.

Teeming.

Torrential.

Unplacatable.

Cleansing hearts.

Opening eyes.

Transferring souls.

Delivering the bound.

Mending the broken-hearted

Escape of the tempted.

Companion of the fearful.

Foundation of the builder.

Hope for the dying.

Guide of the explorer.

Compass for the lost.

Equipping the naive.

Teaching the simple.

Satiating the thirsty.

Feeding the hungry.

Reproving the wayward.

Correcting the fool.

Training in righteousness.

Opening up hearts to receive God’s grace.

This is the Word of God.

The Bible.

Given in our language.

Glory.

Glory upon glory.

The dawn beckoning anew a return to the old.

Plodding down an ancient path.

Where the good way lies.

Will I read my Bible in 2022?

What else will I do? What else will I let captivate, protect, and guide my discontent and distracted heart?

Yes. I will read my Bible.

I will read it when I don’t feel like it. I will read it when my mind wonders. I will read it when my soul is full. I will read it. I will read it. I will read it.

And, in so doing, my heart will seek the face of my God.

Join me.

I’ll join you.

HERE’s a resource that may help you in your journey.

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
Psalm 1:1-3
